moist, chewy, sweet and tiny are the words that best describe luna tea cakes. i’d have hoped that for the price, i would have had a bigger snack with less calories. this little gem packs 130 calories in about 2 square inches…but it’s worth all 130. upon opening the package, you may seem a bit disappointed with the small size as i was, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in taste.
this “snack cake” (i feel strange lumping it in a category with little debbie and hostess hydrogenated-reconstituted-lardorific-partially defatted-whatever-it-is-that-makes-a-twinkie-snack cakes. but they call it a cake and it IS a snack.) is probably my best choice for a processed/packaged snack. it sure beats those 100-calorie packs of oreo “crisps” or whatever those tasteless cardboard scraps are marketed as. in addition to magnificent taste, this tiny cake has perks too. it’s got vitamins (a great deal for a snack cake, only a few less than an actual luna bar), a little bit of fiber (3g-as much as a luna bar), yumminess and it’s organic. it doesn’t have any soy like a luna bar so you won’t get that rice krispie-like texture. this little bar is like a very dense yet moist cake.
the orange flavor is delicate and sweet. the other flavors are somewhat lacking. the berry one tastes somewhat artificial and the vanilla macadamia nut is very macadamia nut-less and a bit too sweet.
as for the tea, there’s only an inkling of it’s taste and if you aren’t looking for it you probably won’t even notice it. tea just seems to be a modern buzz-word to sell stuff. speaking of, i don’t know if i would believe the claims that this snack cake is “for healthy skin.” i’m a bit upset a responsible company like luna would push their marketing that far. oh well…buy these. you won’t be sorry. 5 stars for taste with one deducted for size and price. i will continue to buy these.

These cakes are so healthy, they are made of wholemeal organic ingredients and they taste very good, they even encourage me to chew better, and are even better tasting if dipped in unsweetened green tea
